The LPC Alumni Foundation partners with the Waynesville-St. Robert Chamber and the Community of Fifty to host "Salute to the Season," a special event in December, dedicated to honoring our service men and women from Fort Leonard Wood, who have stayed in the local community during this festive time.
As a community deeply connected to the military in Mid-Missouri, we recognize the sacrifices made by our brave servicemen and women. "Salute to the Season" seeks to create a warm and welcoming environment, bringing the holiday spirit to those who may be far from home.
This evening will include a variety of entertainment and a holiday meal to tie together the spirit of the season. "Salute to the Season" is a testament to the spirit of community and appreciation for our military members.

For many of the Soldiers in Training, being unable to return home during the holidays was a result of various circumstances—some logistical, some financial, and others deeply personal and heart-wrenching. Recognizing the emotional challenges of being separated from loved ones during such a meaningful time of year, the Mid-Missouri community rallied together to create a "home away from home." This outpouring of support brought warmth, joy, and a sense of belonging to those who needed it most.
Held at The Place for You, the evening brought together military members and community volunteers to celebrate the spirit of the season. The event featured a variety of entertainment, a festive holiday meal, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere that exemplified the Mid-Missouri community's deep connection to its military neighbors.
Special thanks were extended to the many local businesses, organizations, and individuals whose generosity made the event a success. Route 66 Taco and Wing Company provided the delicious holiday meal, Vidies Catering donated dessert, and transportation was arranged through Tabernacle Baptist Church. The evening’s entertainment was made possible by Iberia DJ Service, with Cedar Visual Media capturing the memories through video coverage. Celebrate with B, LLC created a stunning selfie station adorned in patriotic colors, offering attendees a festive and memorable backdrop to capture the joy of the evening. Waypoint United Methodist Church, along with over 30 individuals, organizations, and non-profits, also contributed monetary donations that will allow gift cards to be presented to the Soldiers in Training, further brightening their holidays.
Cecilia Murray, the Executive Director of the Waynesville-St. Robert Chamber of Commerce, played a pivotal role in the success of "Salute to the Season." Her leadership and unwavering dedication to supporting the military community ensured that every detail of the event was thoughtfully planned and executed. Murray’s efforts, alongside the tireless work of volunteers, helped bring the community together to provide a meaningful and memorable holiday experience for the service members in attendance.
With over 109 service members in attendance, including CPT Rodriguez, 1SG Brawdy, and five dedicated Drill Sergeants from the Holdover Company, the event was a resounding success. This success would not have been possible without the dedication of over 30 volunteers from the community. These individuals selflessly gave their time and energy to ensure the event ran smoothly, from setting up the venue and serving meals to engaging with service members and creating a warm, festive atmosphere. Their efforts exemplify the unity and deep appreciation that the residents of the region feel for those who serve. This collective effort highlighted the strength of the community’s bond with its military members, showcasing a heartfelt commitment to making the holiday season special for all involved.
James Breckinridge, the event organizer, shared his heartfelt thoughts on the significance of "Salute to the Season."
"This event holds a special place in my heart, not just as an organizer, but as someone who deeply values the sacrifices of our servicemen and women," said Breckinridge. "Bringing a sense of home and holiday spirit to those who can’t be with their loved ones is incredibly meaningful. Seeing the community come together to support these young men and women is truly inspiring—it’s a privilege to help make their holidays brighter."
The "Salute to the Season" celebration is more than just an event—it is a testament to the power of community. It provided solace and camaraderie to those who couldn’t be with their families, proving that even in challenging circumstances, the strength of togetherness can prevail. This event wasn’t just about food or festivities; it was about creating a space where the spirit of the season could flourish, reminding our servicemen and women that they are never alone, even when far from home.
For the Waynesville-St. Robert area, where the military presence is an integral part of the local identity, the annual "Salute to the Season" is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of supporting those who dedicate their lives to serving the nation.
The LPC Alumni Foundation, the Waynesville-St. Robert Chamber of Commerce, and the Committee of Fifty extend heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the event, making the season a little brighter for those who serve. Together, the community exemplified the true spirit of the holidays—one of unity, gratitude, and giving.
